UTLA strike authorization; guns in schools; DeVos Watch; Confronting the Education Debt

This Week in Education Organizing - September 7, 2018

Teachers in Los Angeles have almost unanimously authorized the union to call a strike, should ongoing contract negotiations continue to stall; The DeVos Department of Education issues faulty data on school shootings...and signals neutrality on whether federal education dollars can be used to buy guns for teachers.  New resources include a Community Schools Playbook from the Partnership for the Future of Learning. Black Lives Matter at Schools prepares for a week of action. And AROS is set to release Confronting the Education Debt, a new report on the  under-funding of schools in Black and Brown communities. All this and more in this week's NewsBlast!
